we follow ethical standards worked out by man not by god(s).

Being Ethical or Ethics means deciding what is right and wrong. The right act can be identified as the one causing the greatest good and the immoral or wrong act as the one impeding it. Being Ethical is also about conduct and "the good life". What life is worth living or is satisfying?

Ethics and morals are akin to theory and practice. Ethics denotes the theory of right action and the greater good, while morals indicate their practice.

In philosophy, moral or ethical relativism is the position that moral or ethical propositions do not reflect objective or universal moral truths, but instead make claims relative to social, cultural, historical or personal circumstances.

We describe themselves as "ethical relativists," meaning that they are accepting of other people's values and agree that there is no one "right" way of doing some things.

Religion is not the source of ethics, nor is ethics proof of the existence of God. Ethics has to be independent of God. Plato showed that in the Euthyphro Dilemma": Is what is ethical commanded by God because it is ethical, or is it ethical because it is commanded by God?
